Type 1 Diabetes is Not What You Think It is


Some people might think you get diabetes because you are fat and eat to much sugar.

For Type 1 diabetes however, that is not the case. In fact almost the exact oppisite of that. Type 1 diabetes happens when your immune system attacks the pancreas. Our pancreas's produce insulin. Insulin keeps your blood sugar in the perfect range. When the immune system attacks the pancreas, your pancreas can not produce any insulin. Therefore, your blood sugar can go very high or very low in a quick amount of time.


There is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes. If you do have Type 1 Diabetes you have to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Most people with Type 1 do that by using a blood glucose monitor. By using this device you have to prick your finger more than ten times a day. It gets the blood and tests it to see how high your blood sugar is. Type 1 diabetes is most common in children.
